Getting an apostille for your criminal background check
Teachers must now have a criminal background check that is notarized, signed and dated by an apostille.
Apostille is a French word which means a certification. It is commonly used in English to refer to the legalization of a document for international use under the terms of the 1961 Hague Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents.
Korea, USA, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the UK are all signors of this agreement.
NOTE: Canada did not sign this agreement, so they cannot have a document notarized by an apostille. Canadian teachers must secure a verification stamp from the Korean consulate in their jurisdiction.
